Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ Compact

Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ Compact

Connect an M.2 solid state drive (or other peripheral) up to the PCIe interface on your Raspberry Pi 5. The Compact version is compatible with the official Raspberry Pi 5 case.

Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ Compact is an adaptor for connecting M.2 devices (such as NVMe drives and AI accelerators) to the single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface on Raspberry Pi 5. It supports fast (up to ~450 MB/s) data transfer to and from NVMe drives and other PCIe accessories. It is capable of supplying up to 3A to connected devices (to make sure that your devices are getting enough power we'd recommend usingĀ the official PSU).

The Compact version is designed to fit inside theĀ Raspberry Pi Case for Raspberry Pi 5. It connects to the PCIe FPC connector on Raspberry Pi 5 via a ā€œflex/rigidā€ FPC built into the HAT+ PCB, which removes the need for a separate FPC cable. It is supplied with 8mm spacers and screws that can be used to mount it securely.

A SSD is not included -Ā  you'll need an NVMe drive with an M.2 M key edge connector in the 2230 form factor. Check out the official Raspberry Pi ones!

Features

  • 4 Gbits/s PCIe 2.0 interface provides fast (~450Mbytes/s) data transfer to and from NVMe SSD drives and other PCIe accessories.Ā
  • Supports devices that use the M.2 M key edge connector
  • Supports devices with the 2230 form factor
  • Capable of supplying up to 3A to connected M.2 devices
  • Includes power and activity LEDs
  • Conforms to the Raspberry Pi HAT+ specification
  • Supplied with 3 pcs 8mm M2.5 nylon spacers and 6 pcs M2.5 nylon screws to enable the M.2 HAT+ to be fitted to a Raspberry Pi 5 prior to fitting it into the Raspberry Pi CaseĀ

Getting Started

SSDs connected using this adapter should be autodetected by the latest Raspberry Pi software/firmware.

For best results with NVMe/PCIe, make sure your Raspberry Pi OS and Pi 5 firmware are updated to the most recent versions:Ā sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Notes

  • M.2 HAT+ Compact is not designed to be used with the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler - the supplied standoffs aren't tall enough. Consider theĀ full size M.2 HAT+ if you want to combine it with an Active Cooler.
